Research on sustainable small sensor network load on the natural environment

Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research of MEXT (FY 2011 - FY 2009)

[Abstract]

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been becoming a key technology for natural environment monitoring. We are developing wireless communication technologies for sustainable sensor networks with less impact to nature. In this research, entering nature, e.g., trespassing forest, by people and vehicles incurs negative impact, or damage to nature. The topic consists of the following three subjects.

(1)
Routing protocol reducing the number of replace of battery-driven (BT) nodes
(2)
Efficient collection of sensed data with energy-harvesting (EH) nodes
(3)
Communication protocols with least number of nodes using BT and EH nodes

Those protocols can be applied not only to monitoring nature but monitoring radiation in nuclear plant where people can not go into frequently.
