MAC protocol using Smart Antennas

Ad-hoc network is a network where each node can communicate with each other without the need of fixed infrastructure. Recently, the proliferation of wireless devices has made ad-hoc network attracting so much attention. We propose a new ad-hoc network MAC protocol called “SWAMP” (Smart Antennas based Wider-Range Access MAC Protocol). SWAMP is aimed to improve the performance of data link layer where it exploits the spatial difference by utilizing smart antennas. Compared with the conventional method, SWAMP improves both spatial reuse and transmission range. SWAMP is also confirmed results in significant throughput improvement.
