A Study on TCP Retransmission Control Method for Mobile Streaming
Hiroaki Honda

In the next-generation network, ultra-high speed transter capability will become necessary to support a variety of advanced multimedia services. Though wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) technology can fully bring out the potential of fiber in optical networks, effective use of wavelength resources is generally important because of the limited number of available wavelengths. When multiple users request the same data to a server, multicast management can realize the effective use of wavelength resources.

Under the background discribed above, in this paper, we have proposed a dynamic OBS multicasting design method using multiple shared trees, which includes shared tree generation/selection and wavelength assignment, for the purpose of simplication of routing process and larger capacity for multicast traffic. Our proposal generates shared trees with few overlaps, selects one or more shared trees so that the number of redundant and useless packets arrived at the egress edge routers does not increase, and assigns a preferential wavelength to each selected shared tree. We evaluate its performance from viewpoints of the burst loss probability, the number of used wavelengths, the number of established multicast sessions, and the number of IP packets discarded at the egress edge routers because of redundant and useless arrival.
