Multi-Channel MAC Protocol Considering Transmission State
of Adjacent Stations in Wireless Networks
Yosuke Tanigawa

In recent years, wireless network like wireless mesh network or ad hoc network is attracting attention as a key platform for next-generation ubiquitous society. In these networks, it is indispensable for wireless stations to communicate with each other autonomously in single-hop or in multi-hop.

We introduce Multi-Channel MAC Protocol which utilizes multiple channels. Multi-channel environment increases aggregate throughput because multiple transmissions can take place on different orthogonal channels without interfering. However, stations which has one half-duplex transceiver can operate on one channel at a time. Therefore, when the sender transmits a frame to the receiver transmitting data to another station on different channel, the frame is never received until the receiver completes the data transmission. This triggers needless frame retransmissions of the sender and spends channel resource unnecessarily.
